AT STAR LACTATION, IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU AND YOUR BABY.
We come to each family that requests our help with a heart full of love and compassion. We will never judge you. We are here to help you meet your breastfeeding goals, whether it's just to get through one more day breastfeeding, or whether you plan to nurse for many years. We understand that every parent has a different history, background and belief system, and so there is no "one size fits all" plan for breastfeeding. We serve families of every race, creed, religion, gender and sexual orientation. If you're loving on your baby by breastfeeding/chestfeeding/ exclusive pumping/bottlefeeding, then we are here for you.
WE PRACTICE HOLISTICALLY.
We believe that breastfeeding is about more than latch. We believe that to truly address breastfeeding problems, we need to find the underlying causes for those problems. There might be problems because of baby’s oral anatomy. It may be that baby’s body is tight because of the way he was in utero or because of a rough birth. It may be mom’s breast anatomy, or something in her diet. That’s why we practice holistically. When you work with us, besides giving you practical information about positioning and breastfeeding management, we may also provide information and/or recommendations about things like: manual therapy or bodywork, homeopathic or herbal remedies, dietary and nutritional supplements.

Here's me in a nutshell!
* I have been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2016. Did you know that IBCLCs hold the GOLD STANDARD, crème-de-la-crème expert-level certification of alllll the confusing breastfeeding helper credentials?
* I have pursued advanced training in assessing for tongue, lip and buccal ties, as well as methods to help habilitate the oral function of babies that have ties and structural issues that affect breastfeeding. Every day, I help families navigate through tongue/lip/buccal ties to successful breastfeeding!
* Before I was an IBCLC, I certified as a Certified Lactation Counselor through Healthy Children Project.
* I was a La Leche League Leader for three years. I love La Leche League for its nurturing, child-centered philosophy that believes in mothering through breastfeeding. La Leche League changed my life in my early years of parenting!
* I am the author of the well-known nightweaning book for breastfed toddlers “Nursies When the Sun Shines.” The book was published in 2011 and has since sold more than 40,000 copies. Want a copy of your own? Just ask! I give free copies to any client that asks!
* In 2019, I moved to Roanoke from the San Francisco Bay Area. I began my private lactation practice (Tri-Valley Lactation) there in 2016.
* I am the mother of four beautiful daughters ages 9-19. I spent ten years in total nursing my babies, including seven months tandeming an infant and toddler. I loved my time breastfeeding, which is why I LOVE helping families on their own breastfeeding journeys!
* Before I was an IBCLC, I worked as an attorney. At first, I worked for the government, investigating and administratively prosecuting politicians and campaign committees that violated ethics laws. After I had my first baby, I switched to private practice, helping families resolve financial problems using federal bankruptcy laws.
